About Little Rock

Little Rock, the state capital,
is located in the center of the state and offers many of the amenities of a larger city
but with a small town feel. With a total metropolitan population of nearly half a million,
the Central Arkansas area offers a good job market for many professional occupations.
Housing near the UAMS campus is plentiful and available in a wide price range.
The city possesses a strong public school system
supplemented by numerous private and parochial schools. Central Arkansas is also the home
of 12 colleges and universities including the
University of Arkansas at Little Rock, which
has an enrollment of approximately 10,000 students.
The William J.
Clinton
Presidential Center, located in downtown Little Rock near the Arkansas River, is
the largest presidential archive in American history and is a
fascinating spot to visit for persons of all ages.
Cultural, sports and outdoor activities abound
in the city and surrounding area. You will find
ballet,
symphony, opera and
theater groups
as well as a number of museums. An outdoor concert area and a thriving
farmers
market are housed in the
River Market area.
Alltel Arena offers exciting
shows, concerts, and sporting events year-round.
Minor league baseball and indoor
football as well as all levels of school sports are available to the sports fan.
The UALR Trojans play at the
new $25 million Jack Stephens Center.
For those who want to participate in
physical activities (instead of just cheering for the team), Little Rock
provides golf courses, amateur softball teams, tennis facilities,
fitness and aquatic centers, and much
more.
Arkansas
offers fishing, sailing, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities all within a short
distance of the city. (See the link below for Arkansas Parks and Tourism.) You can even find thoroughbred
horse racing in nearby
Hot Springs.
