Brian Yuen MD
What is your home town?
I grew up in Little Rock, but was born in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Where did you attend medical school?
Ross University School of Medicine.
What other educational credentials do you have?
B.A. in biology from the University of Virginia.
What are your particular clinical interests?
Clinically, my interest is to practice Family Medicine in the settings of urgent care, wilderness/rural medicine, and general outpatient medicine. I enjoy working with my hands to perform small procedures like suturing, injections, joint aspirations, incision and drainage, biopsies, etc. all within the scope of Family Medicine.
Why did you choose Family Medicine?
I knew Family Medicine was for me because I love being a “jack of all trades.” It is a flexible field that can be tailored towards your own interests, which may evolve over time. I am also ardent about giving front-line medical care, in addition to providing continuity of care and building long term doctor-patient relationships.
Why did you choose the Little Rock Family Medicine residency program?
I chose Little Rock Family Medicine because it is a relatively small and close-knit program. All the faculty and staff are passionate about our community and what they do. Being in Little Rock also allows us the opportunity to learn from some of the best as we rotate through the many different specialties established here at UAMS, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System, and Baptist Health Medical Center.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of medicine?
Growing up in Arkansas and as an Eagle Scout, I was raised enjoying the great outdoors. Arkansas (The Natural State) has almost every outdoor activity you can think of except snow sports. I grew up backpacking in the Ozarks, canoeing on the picturesque Buffalo National River, rock climbing at Sam’s Throne and Horseshoe Canyon, mountain biking on old logging roads, running on the Arkansas River Trail, scuba diving in Lake Ouachita, spelunking at Blanchard Springs Caverns, boating on many of Arkansas’ pristine lakes and rivers, 4-Wheeling at Superlift Off Road Park in Hot Springs, and participating in archery and shooting sports. Whenever I have the time, I stay fit and get outdoors as much as I can!
I also enjoy traveling. I have studied abroad in Spain, Belize, and in the Commonwealth of Dominica. I have taken road trips as far west as Utah, as far north as Minnesota, as far east as the Outer Banks, and as far south as Southernmost Point in Key West. The next trip on my bucket list is to drive to Alaska!
