Kavya Veluvolu MD
What is your home town?
I grew up in Little Rock, but was born in India.
Where did you attend medical school?
Dr. P.S.I. Medical College, India.
What are your particular clinical interests?
I am interested in practicing Family Medicine with a focus in Geriatrics, OB/GYN and rural medicine.
Why did you choose Family Medicine?
Family Medicine is an amazing field! In it, I have the ability to not only diagnose and make treatment plans but also promote preventive strategies which can help in relieving consequent stress on families. By nature, I give importance to family as a whole and in this field, I can start and build relationships with the families. As a Family Medicine practitioner, I will have a rare opportunity to touch so many aspects of the patients’ lives, which is a beautiful thing!
Why did you choose the Little Rock Family Medicine residency program?
I grew up in Little Rock and I want to stay in Arkansas after I finish my residency. I specifically chose this program because it is a university program where I can get outstanding learning opportunities from Family Medicine departmental faculty members who have been proven to be excellent. In addition, I will also have the unique opportunity to learn from specialists during each of my rotations at UAMS, ACH, VA, and Baptist Health Medical Center. A bonus is to have the opportunity to do research under the guidance of the DFPM’s own research department.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of medicine?
I enjoy drawing, dancing, listening to music, playing badminton, capturing anything that catches my eye (photography), and being outdoors. (I bet everyone who grew up in Arkansas would love the outdoors, unless they have allergies.)
