Andreas Dias OrtizWhat is your home town?

I was born, raised, and educated in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Where did you attend medical school?

University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus.

What other educational credentials do you have?

B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus.

What are your particular clinical interests?

Clinically, being a Family Medicine Resident, I have many interests. Those that stand out the most include in-office procedures (I love working with my hands), urgent care, and general primary care medicine. I am also very passionate about education, in respect to both patients and future medical students, or residents.

Why did you choose Family Medicine?

Family Medicine simply provides me with the diversity to practice in many clinical settings, adapting to my interests as I’m sure they’re to evolve over time. Whether it be the ED, urgent care, a primary care clinic, the hospital setting, or in association to a medical school (or any other number of options), Family Medicine is the perfect base for the diversity I’d like to experience throughout my life.

Why did you choose the Little Rock Family Medicine residency program?

Throughout my life, I have been shaped by my family. When match season came along, I obviously applied to many programs. However, knowing that my father was living in North Little Rock, this program just held a special place within my rank list. This program had probably the most robust online page out of all that interviewed me, and it really allowed me to see the depth of education that goes on at UAMS. This, combined with one of the most robust board pass rates I had seen, as well as the Program Director’s interest in procedures, it really became an easy choice for me.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of medicine?

Outside of medicine, I’m just as diverse of a person. I enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities, especially trying out something/going somewhere new! I really enjoy spending time with friends, playing board games or just watching movies. Being a bit of an introvert, I enjoy drawing/doodling in my notebooks, as well as reading. Also, cooking has always been a passion of mine. I’m not much of a sports-oriented person, but if my schedule allows me to play soccer, I will always say yes.
